Yasuri Shichika, septième successeur de l'école de l'épée sans lame, le Kyotouryuu, vit sur une île isolée avec sa sœur aînée, Nanami. Un jour, Shichika reçoit la visite d'une femme nommée Togame, qui lui demande son aide pour retrouver et rassembler les douze dernières épées forgées par le légendaire maître forgeron Shikizaki Kiki. Shichika et Togame entreprennent leur voyage en quittant l'île où il a passé plus de vingt ans. Ils devront affronter douze individus qui possèdent et protègent les épées légendaires de Shikizaki.
