Tamako sait tout, ou presque, sur les mochis, ces friandises traditionnelles japonaises. Quand elle n'est pas en première année de lycée, elle invente de nouvelles saveurs et variétés pour Tama-ya, la boutique de mochis familiale. L'école et le passage à l'âge adulte, en revanche, sont des recettes qu'elle peine encore à maîtriser. Heureusement, soutenue par ses meilleures amies Kanna et Midori, dont les parents tiennent eux aussi commerce dans la même galerie marchande, Tamako compte bien tout affronter avec énergie.
