Mais les parents de Makoto, jugeant leur fille trop étourdie pour cela, préfèrent qu'elle obtienne au moins son diplôme du secondaire. Au lieu de partir seule, Makoto et son chat Chito quittent donc l'agitation de Yokohama pour s'installer chez de la famille dans la préfecture d'Aomori, le temps qu'elle finisse ses études. Le changement est de taille, et les particularités du coin n'arrangent rien…
