Cet acte terroriste sans précédent, plus tard baptisé « Careless Monday », ne fait pourtant aucune victime apparente et tombe vite dans l'oubli. Trois mois plus tard, Saki Morimi, jeune Japonaise en voyage de fin d'études aux États-Unis, se retrouve dans une situation délicate devant la Maison-Blanche à Washington, et est sauvée par l'intervention inattendue d'un compatriote.
