Totoro's Forest (Sayama Hills)

トトロの森(狭山丘陵)

The Sayama Hills straddling Saitama and Tokyo are the real-world inspiration for the lush forests in My Neighbor Totoro. This protected woodland area, officially called Totoro's Forest by the Totoro Fund, preserves the same kind of satoyama landscape where Satsuki and Mei discover the magical forest spirit.

📺 Scene from the Anime

The Sayama Hills woodland is the direct inspiration for Totoro's forest home, where the ancient camphor trees and dense undergrowth create the same enchanted atmosphere that Satsuki and Mei experience.
