Yagami Kazuma appartenait autrefois à la famille Kannagi, une famille respectée de mages du feu dotée d'une affinité naturelle pour cet élément. Cependant, après sa défaite facile face à sa cousine Ayano et manquant complètement de talent en magie du feu, Kazuma est banni et rejeté par sa famille. Quatre ans plus tard, Kazuma revient finalement au Japon, cette fois en tant qu'utilisateur du vent exceptionnellement puissant. Une série de meurtres de membres de la famille Kannagi survient à son arrivée. Tandis que la plupart des membres de la famille, dont Ayano, sont convaincus
