Bien que née dans une famille noble, Miyo a perdu sa mère biologique très jeune et a grandi maltraitée par sa belle-mère, sa demi-sœur et son père. Lorsqu'on lui annonce enfin son mariage, son futur époux n'est autre que Kiyoka, un militaire réputé cruel et sans cœur. Toutes ses précédentes fiancées ont d'ailleurs fui le foyer en moins de trois jours. Résignée à l'idée que sa famille l'abandonne, Miyo frappe à la porte de sa nouvelle demeure.
